I prefer the term slashie creative to the more popular multi-hyphenate label given to us colorful creatives because, no matter where I am or what I’m working on, I can’t help but be aesthetically-minded. When traveling, I specifically scour the unexpected to collect accessories, trinkets, and clothes that are unexpectedly, joy-inducingly colorful. Back home and when I’m back to work, these colorful collectibles give me an instant boost of happiness each day.

I love filling my home with bright, vibrant colors, so when I was in New York, I just had to grab these unique, colorful coasters from the brilliant downtown design store, Coming Soon. For tableware—on a trip to Lisbon, I popped by Kintu Studios and discovered some super playful ceramics that bring loads of character and color into any home. (And I absolutely love this knitted ceramic bowl for fruits!). I also found these irresistible colorful, hand-blown glass trinkets at GoodHood in London that I absolutely couldn’t pass up—I mean, look at those cute, silly little smile-makers!

My hyperfocus on—okay, obsession with—color allows me to infuse even the most ordinary everyday objects in my home with joy. Case in point: the forever combs at Officine Universelle Buly 1803 in Paris! While I was in the City of Light, I also found this amazing day-to-day calendar for my coffee table at Yvonn Lambert, with each page featuring a unique, vibrant design of the date—what a way to start my day!

Not only do I love filling my home with color; I love filling my wardrobe with it, too! But when you have a closet full of bright hues, it actually helps to have some neutral accessories that go with anything and everything. This incredible black necklace from Los Angeles’ Mohawk General Store is honestly one of my favorites—I love how the nautilus shape reminds me of the beach! I also absolutely adore these black sunglasses I got from the Bonnie Clyde flagship store in Los Angeles. They’re sporty but classic, and add a bit of edge to any outfit. Speaking of sporty, I love the great outdoors, and when I go hiking, I like to wear clothing that’s both athletic and vibrant. So this black trail running backpack I found at Forecast in New York goes perfectly with any of my colorful hiking fits.

That doesn’t mean all of my accessories are neutral, though… far from it! I love my super-cute, super-functional travel bag from Montbell which comes in three eye-popping colors. And, of course, my trust bright blue water bottle from The Broken Arm in Paris brings me a touch of joy. (And not just because it keeps me nice and hydrated!)

All this to say, there’s plenty of color in the world—and when you can bring it home from your travels, the joy of color comes with a perfect dose of nostalgia.
